Clinical and Demographic Profiles of Children Presenting with Acetaminophen Induced Acute Liver Failure in a Tertiary Paediatric Intensive Care Unit of South India

 Introduction: Acetaminophen (APAP) is the most widely used over-the-counter antipyretic and analgesic medicine in children. Although hepatic failure death rare paediatric population, it one of important dangerous presentation acetaminophen induced toxicity There very sparse data regarding APAP acute liver our settings, hence this study was done to know clinical demographic profiles as well outcome children with failure.
 Methods: This a retrospective aged 0 - 18 years admitted diagnosis tertiary intensive care unit South India from January 2014 December 2018. The clinical, these patients were reviewed analysed.
 Results: A total 26 had failure. Out patients, 53.8% males 46.1% females. Among these, 24 (92.3%) survived two (7.7%) died. average dose ingested 168.5 mg/ kg/d. mean serum level 52.3 mg/dl. presence low pH, hypotension international normalised ratio (INR) value > 4 showed bad Conclusion: Paracetamol but fatal Children acidosis, shock INR poor prognosis. Hence, judicious use different preparations counselling parents appropriate doses should be while prescribing medicine.
